What we do...

The EDF Energy Trust helps people in poverty, suffering or distress who are struggling with their gas and/or electricity debts by awarding grants to clear those debts.

The Trust also offers help via Further Assistance Payments - grants to clear other essential household debts or costs, including water/sewerage debts. The aim of the Trust is to give vulnerable individuals a fresh start and enable them to keep free of debt going forward.

In addition, the Trust operates an Organisational Grant Programme offering grants to money/debt advice organisations to increase money advice / debt prevention services available in communities, as well as signposting customers to energy efficiency advice and practical support.

The Trust has been operating since October 2003 and has already been able to make over 32,000 awards within its individual and families grant programme amounting to over 11.3 million. The Organisational Grant Programme has also made over 140 awards to agencies totalling approximately 2 million.

The Trustees set the policy, and control and monitor the Trust's activities but have entered into an agreement for the administration of the charity with Charis Grants Ltd, a company with extensive grant management experience.
