The EDF Energy Trust is a registered charity (number 1099446) funded by donations from EDF Energy. However , the Trust operates independently of EDF Energy and is governed by a board of independent trustees. Day to day administration is undertaken by Charis Grants Ltd, a company with extensive knowledge and experience in grants management.


The Trust's aim is for the relief and prevention of poverty, suffering and distress, particularly among those who are fuel poor and unable to meet or pay charges for their domestic energy supply.

The EDF Energy Trust offers two types of grants:

  • Awards are granted to individuals and families to clear domestic energy arrears and other essential household bills or costs.
  • Awards are granted to organisations to provide money and debt prevention advice and education, with a particular emphasis on fuel poverty issues. Trained project officers will provide:

    • Money, debt and benefits advice
    • Assistance to eligible clients to apply for financial assistance from the Trust
    • Signpost clients for energy efficiency advice
