If you are having difficulties dealing with debt problems, you should seek specialist advice. Before seeing an advisor about money issues, it is useful to make a complete list of your debts and work out your income and expenditure.

You can also try speaking with any of the following organisations:

  • National Debtline
    This is a helpline which provides free, confidential and independent advice on how to deal with debt problems. Freephone 0808 808 4000 or click here.
  • Citizens Advice Bureau
    The CAB provides free information and advice. They do not have a national telephone number because they only deal with people at their local offices, called bureaux. Your local CAB number can be found:
  • Welfare Rights Advice Service
    Some Councils have a welfare rights advice service or have links to an independent local service.
  • Independent Money Advice Service
    They are ususally listed in your local telehone directory under 'money'. Many are members of Advice UK and information is available from their website of local agencies at www.adviceuk.org.uk
  • Turn2us

    Turn2us is a new charity set up to help people in financial need access       welfare benefits and grants.The free, comprehensive website features a benefits calculator and a grants search section where individuals can look for grant-giving organisations that may be able to assist them, based on their particular need and circumstances. www.turn2us.org.uk

  • Home Heat Helpline
    Home Heat Helpline is for individuals who are on low income benefits. You can speak to an energy company advisor about debt management or energy efficiency. Freephone 0800 33 66 99 or click here.
  • Energy Saving Trust
    For help with saving energy and for grants available to make energy saving home improvements, call freephone 0800 512 012 or visit www.est.org.uk/myhome

  • National Energy Action (NEA)
