- Replace your lightbulbs with energy saving ones - they last 10 times longer than ordinary lightbulbs and could save you up to £200 per year.
- Remember to always turn off the lights when you leave a room.
- Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows.
- Switch off appliances that are not in use, rather than leaving them on standby. This includes your PC, TV, DVD player, Hi-Fi and many more.
- Only boil as much water as you need (and remember to cover the elements if you're using an electric kettle).
- Use a shower if you have one and you'll save time, money and water.
- If you have a dripping tap, get it repaired quickly. In just one week, you could waste enough hot water to fill half a bath.
- Never switch on a half empty washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher unless you can use a half load or economy programme.
- Is your water too hot? Check your thermostat isn't set higher than 60C/140F.
- Turning your thermostat down by 1ºC could cut your heating bills by up to 10 per cent and save you around £30 per year.
